A Meeting at the Kitchen Table: POC Feminists Envisioning the Future

POC Caucus CFP SEWSA 2013

Calling on some of our People of Color feminist foremothers, the POC Caucus panel hopes to examine where we are as POC academics, cultural workers, and artists and where we’d like to be. As we look at the interracial POC dynamics that both propel and impede our activism/scholarship/art we realize that we must look to ourselves for answers as we struggle to keep our movements alive. We invite stories, questions, experiments, practices, and ideas from POC to encourage an intergenerational multi-racial conversation that supports the articulation of collective movement toward the world we want. This panel/roundtable is caucus space only with the goal of eroding barriers between POC organizers and academics. Possible topics include but are not limited to:

  • Anti-Black Racism in POC spaces

  • Pacific Islander visibility in API organizing and theory

  • Cultivating anti-imperial relationships to land and the university

  • Indigenous lead POC organizing

  • Afrolatin@ research and study

  • BDS and Anti- Apartheid struggle on campuses compare/contrast

  • Coalitions of color in Academia and beyond

  • How not to be tokenized in your department or movement

  • Andrea Smith’s “Three Pillars of White Supremacy” as movement/political curriculum

  • Strategic research projects for building POC collective solidarity

  • What the Academy does to POC

  • Community Accountability as Research Ethics

  • POC Food Justice and Scholarship

  • Digital Humanities and POC scholarly projects

  • Queer POC Visibility and Cultural Work
